The long-tail boat, or ruea hang yao, is not a leisure craft by design — it is a working vessel, its long steel driveshaft bolted to a repurposed car or truck engine that the boatman swings by hand to steer.
For generations these boats carried fish, rice, and villagers between the limestone islands scattered across the Andaman Sea.
